Learn the ins and outs of composting, meet new people, and participate in interesting events, all while serving your community! Become a Master Composter!

Since 1994, the San Diego Master Composter courses have provided in-depth training in composting techniques from local experts. Volunteers become composting ambassadors who provide hands-on advice within their communities. As part of this unique training opportunity, volunteers provide 30 hours of community service, teaching others to compost. From building compost piles in community gardens, teaching children about worms, conducting workshops and setting up composting displays, Master Composters work on the grassroots level to support water-wise gardening and waste diversion. Master Composters come from all walks of life and their projects reflect their diversity of background and experience.
