Zero Waste Encinitas State of the City Address

Help the City of Encinitas make their State of the City Address a Zero Waste event! Educate event attendees on waste reduction, and at the same time, hear exciting news about the community with a keynote speech from Mayor Catherine Blakespear.

The Encinitas Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of Encinitas, is holding their annual State of the City Address and has asked Solana Center to help the occasion be a Zero Waste Event. Last year we diverted 92% of the waste generated at this event from the landfill. Let's beat our record this year!

There will be drink and hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants and it is up to us to get food scraps, recycling, and trash sorted correctly. While we manage the sorting, we are also providing community members with information about food scrap diversion (composting) and recycling. Post event, we do a complete sorting of discards to quantify the zero-waste-to-landfill efforts.

At this event, you will assist with:

  • Setting up disposal stations
  • Working in teams to monitor each station
  • Educating event attendees on disposal practices
  • Assisting with waste sorting and quantifying
