Starting Your Traditional Compost Pile - County of San Diego

If you're ready to begin composting your food scraps and yard waste at home, but are unsure where to start, this webinar is for you! Our virtual workshop will give you the knowledge to build an effective compost pile. This is Part 2 of our 4-part Traditional Composting Series.

In composting, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Good technique when building your backyard compost pile can encourage efficient decomposition, minimize time needed for maintenance, and address common challenges. Our experienced educators will help you to choose and prepare your materials, understand the needs of a well-balanced compost pile, and put it all together for happy composting.

This webinar will be held using Zoom, so please note that you will need to have the Zoom application installed on your device (computer, smartphone, or tablet) to attend and participate. You will receive the link to join upon registering.

This webinar is funded by the County of San Diego and is intended for residents of unincorporated County. Anyone may attend, however, the webinar recording will be available for 7 days after the live presentation to unincorporated County residents only.

Help us get the word out to other unincorporated residents! You'll be entered to win a raffle prize for each resident you get to attend the webinar. If you get someone to register, email kelsea@solanacenter.org and we'll set up a raffle entry for you.

In this webinar, we will cover the following topics

  • Essentials of a thriving compost pile
  • What tools and materials you'll need
  • Which items are compostable and which are not
