One hour hands-on presentations for Pre-K through 12th grade

 

Presentation Highlights

· In-class presentation conducted by a Master Composter

· Installation of a worm bin for the classroom

· Worm anatomy, life cycles, ecosystems,

     the decomposition process, composting, and recycling

· Keeping the worm bin ecosystem healthy and the

     worms thriving

· How composting conserves resources, saves water,

     and creates rich compost for growing healthy plants

· Desktop worm bin complete with worms for the classroom

· Guide to Vermicomposting for Teachers, a comprehensive guide including vermicomposting curriculum

· Free ongoing technical and program assistance

 

Funding

Presentations meet the funding requirements for school garden grants. Matching grants are available for eligible public schools in Encinitas and San Diego funded by the City of San Diego and the City of Encinitas.

Lunchroom Vermicomposting Program

School-wide vermicomposting program to compost lunchroom food scraps

 

Program Highlights

 

· 45 minute vermicomposting presentation

· Initial set up of large worm bin

· Includes all materials (bin, collecting buckets, scale, bin signage)

· Periodic monitoring and ongoing technical assistance from a

Master Composter

· Follow up consultations and additional program assistance as

needed
