On-Farm Composting Support: The "Unbuild"

Help the Solana Center team prepare for the upcoming On-Farm Composting Course!

Solana Center Garden

Our On-Farm Composting course is coming up and we need your help to "unbuild" an aerated static pile and harvest finished compost before the class begins so it can be rebuilt and used as a teaching tool. Spend the day outside with us and enjoy the beauty of Terra Madre Gardens!

We will be working with the owner of the farm, David, who will be there with his tractor to help take apart the old ASP. This will be physically demanding work, so please review the job description below before signing up.

In this event you will assist with:

  • The "unbuilding" of an aerated static pile
  • Harvesting compost
  • Gathering feedstock for the upcoming On Farm Composting course

Volunteer Qualifications:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to be physically active for 2+ hours (but with lots of breaks!)
  • Must provide your own work clothes (closed-toed shoes, gloves, clothes that can get dirty, hat,  etc.)
  • Must provide own water bottle (reusable please)
  • Must be able to provide proof of vaccination against Covid-19 or a negative PCR test from the previous 7 days. This will be shown to the staff lead on event day.

Click on the "Volunteer Now" button to sign up for a shift! Questions? Please email volunteer@solanacenter.org.
