Today marks the start of International Composting Awareness Week! Organized by the US Council for Composting, this is the largest and most comprehensive education initiative of the compost industry and has been celebrated nationwide each year during the first full week of May for 25 years.
This year's theme for 2020 is Soil Loves Compost. This at Solana Center is a fact we all know and love.
Love composting and want to join in on the celebration?
Help us educate people on the benefits of creating compost and why Soil Loves Compost by sharing what it can do for your garden, your community, and for the health of our environment!
New to composting?
This week is the perfect time to start. Check out our "Compost it Yourself" guide for a breakdown of the composting basics or join us for a free webinar! We're offering a Vermicompost Virtual Workshop on May 12th and May 16th. Register ahead of time to receive the webinar information!
Here are a few more ideas from our friends at the Compost Council to get you started on your ICAW plans:
- Have your governor or city leader sign the Proclamation acknowledging International Compost Awareness Week
- Partner with other environmental organizations to share some content on social media to raise awareness about composting.
- Start a Victory Garden using compost! A lot of people are jumping on this idea and it’s a great way to get outside, grow your own food, and learn about making the best possible soil.
- Sart a vermicompost bin with our DIY tutorial!
