“Giving of ourselves and our resources adds meaning to life. Philanthropy offers a way to promote the causes I care deeply about and to support the excellent work of non-profit organizations, like Solana Center for Environmental Innovation. The environment is of primary concern to me because its degradation is difficult if not impossible to reverse and the effects on the planet and people are far-reaching – ultimately causing famine, disease, destruction, and death. We need to slow climate change, help the ocean and the earth begin to heal, and we must eliminate the scourge of single-use plastics made from fossil fuels. I enjoy being a philanthropist and believe that by supporting organizations that are working to heal the planet, educating people about the issues, and spreading the word, I hope to make a difference.“

Appointed to the Advisory Board of the Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation (CMBC) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, 2024 Traveled with Scripps Oceanography to Palau to experience the impressive impact of restoration of the coral reefs there.

Describe your passion for the environment and your vision for a sustainable future.

I had a life-changing experience when I was a teenager and participated in a summer-long National Science Foundation program at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. For 8 weeks, we lived on campus, attended lectures every evening by the faculty and did research in a lab. We learned about the importance of the ocean on every aspect of the planet. I vowed to return once I finished my education – and I did! Since that time, I have traveled all over the world, and have seen the effects of single-use plastics, habitat destruction, and of course, climate change. I now have six young grandchildren and I am committed to doing what I can to restore and preserve the beauty, health, and biodiversity of our planet.

We designed and built the first Platinum LEED home in San Diego County in 2009. It was one of just two built in the U.S. at that time. I was committed to setting an example and had to research everything. Among many other things, we used the most energy-efficient appliances, had no volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and successfully fought the City of San Diego to put in a greywater system.

I am happy to support Solana Center in providing important education and services to aid individuals and municipalities in doing their part for the environment.

Thank you Dr. Lisa Braun Glazer for your commitment to our planet, your gifts of generosity to Solana Center, and for leading by example. Learn more about our mission by visiting https://solanacenter.org/about/
