Spring Quarterly Newsletter – 2024
Dear neighbor,
Young eco-stewards are finding ways to transform our use-it and lose-it culture into one of greater respect for our planet. The Solana Beach School District has a waste sorting program, initiated through Solana Center and EDCO consultations, in which older students teach younger ones how to divert food from the landfill. In addition, 30 San Diego high school students have been reaching out to local organizations to teach them about commercial food recovery and organics recycling. So far, the club has educated 12 local organizations and facilitated food donation processes in three.
Here in Encinitas, Isla Rindt, a local Girl Scout, has worked with us to put on the Taking on Textile Waste Event at our center. See details below. Kudos to these amazing students for their diligent work addressing food and textile waste!
In other news, our 40th year anniversary celebration is taking place on May 11th at the Encinitas Community Center. We’ll cover 40 years of sustainable initiatives and give a sneak peek into where we’re headed next. Get your tickets (linked in the section below) for an evening of learning, mingling, music, food, and laughter.
In gratitude,
Jessica Toth
